Samsung Galaxy S5 Kids Mode 1Samsung Galaxy S5 Kids Mode 2Samsung Galaxy S5 Kids Mode 3
The Kids Mode in the Samsung Galaxy S5 is something very interesting and good for those who really care about the content and personal stuff in the device, but don’t want to see their child disappointed on not being given the smartphone for playing around with it. The S5 is for everyone, and the Kids Mode is what vouches for it. The Kids Mode changes the entire interface of the smartphone, and makes it look like one of those toys for the kids with some options to play around with.
To activate the Kids Mode on Samsung Galaxy S5, you need to go to the home screen where there is a shortcut for the same, or you could locate that even in the app drawer. Initially, it would require you to download a file from the Internet for the installation, and once you install it, you would be asked to enter a Pin for you to enter the actual interface.
After that, you can enter the profile of your kid with all the details and select the apps which you wanted your kid to get access to, and even if you choose no app from there, there is a neat list of modified apps ready for the kids.

There are multiple home screens with some interesting apps listed on one, and a dinosaur doing some crazy stuff on the other. The kid has all the fun activities here, with the apps for camera, a painting tool, media player, voice recorder and player with different faces and actions etc.

The sound record option is something which most of the kids might have already seen in the apps such as Talking Tom, Talking Ginger and such, but here you see a mic and the changeable faces, and the playback making it interesting for the kids.

The best part about this app is that the parent gets to see and understand what their kid has been doing on the phone, and which app was used the most frequently, in the last week or in the last month. This even gives the parents an idea on what they like and what they don’t.

The settings include the application permissions, the toggling of 3D tilting effect on the home screen, block key, changing of the parental PIN and also setting the daily playtime limit if you wanted your kid to spend only a set amount of time rather than using it for hours.

How to Set up Blocking Mode (Do Not Disturb) on Samsung Galaxy S5

A smartphone is supposed to be smart with the functions, and one of them is the possibility to make a few functions available only at particular times, and this has to be automatic. The Do Not Disturb mode, which is available in most of the high-end smartphones now, is also there in the Samsung Galaxy S5, but the name is a bit different as they call it as “Blocking Mode” although it does the job in no different way.
S5 Blocking Mode
What does the Blocking Mode in Galaxy S5 do?
Blocking mode would turn off the notifications, alarms and timers, and most importantly, it would block all the calls and for that, you don’t need to be entering the device into airplane mode. The good thing about this is the timing you can set for this to get activated automatically.
How to Activate Blocking Mode and set it up?
To activate the blocking mode in your Samsung Galaxy S5, you need to go to Settings > Personalization > Blocking mode
Toggle the option on, and then you will be able to select the particular options based on what you want to block. You can choose to keep the incoming calls coming while disable all other notifications, the alarm and timer. The blocking mode can be set for always, or for particular times which we usually prefer for nights, where unneeded calls are to be blocked.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Blocking Mode
There is an option to filter contacts from whom you want the incoming calls and notifications, even when the Blocking mode is turned on. The options available in the “Allowed contacts” section include:
  • None
  • All Contacts
  • Favorites
  • Custom – which can be edited and you can add particular contacts who you want to allow
Go into that you can add the contacts in that list. The custom list would be kept saved if in case you select the other options and again in future, wanted the same custom list to be allowed for contacting you when the device is in blocking mode.

It’s no rocket science again, but an important feature and tip for the Samsung Galaxy S5 users. Check out about the Hidden menu key in Galaxy S5 and learn more tips and tricks in the Samsung Galaxy S5 section.

Disable S Voice Shortcut for Faster Home Button Response For Galaxy S5

Today the Samsung Galaxy S5, the latest flagship from Samsung has been released and on this note I would like to give a tip that will make you Samsung’s Smart phone home button bit more responsive if you feel if it s lagging a bit than it was when it came out of the box. There are many Smart phones that face this issue and this list includes the Galaxy S5 also.
Many of the Samsung devices have the S Voice feature that takes voices commands and it can be activated just by double tapping the home key. So the problem is when you press the home button the system will be waiting if you would give the second tap and in the process we feel its bit slow in responding.
s5 s voice 1 s5 s voice 2
The S Voice feature is a good enough feature that lets you to search content on the web quickly just by voice commands and by this but it makes you wait when you are pressing the home button so, to solve this issue you can just turn off or disable this S Voice shortcut by heading in to the S voice and double tapping the shortcut or go to the app drawer and you will find a menu button on the top right corner, then go to Wake-up option and Open the via home key and disable it.
s5 s voice 3 s5 s voice 4
By doing this you can find that your device is responding faster than it used to respond before the S voice was disabled. So many of you might be wondering how to use the S Voice feature, well you can still do that by tapping the S Voice from the app drawer and the Galaxy S5 users can find this option via toolbox feature that is given to it. So this is a small tip that will work on many of the Samsung devices and we would be coming up with many other tips in our future posts.

List of Android Phones getting Android 4.4 KitKat Firmware Update [Sony, HTC Official List, Samsung, Micromax Updated List]

Android Phones KitKat Update
The Android 4.4 KitKat version was recently announced and it is soon to be officially launched by Google when they would be coming up with the next version of Nexus, the Nexus 5 device. But it would always be a guessing game for the users, to see whether the 4.4 update would be coming to their device or not. With most of the high-end devices that were launched recently, one can easily expect that they would be receiving the KitKat update, but for the earlier devices, you will have to wait to see whether the manufacturer is deciding to send the update and whether the device hardware would be able to support it.
For now, keep checking the list below (updated daily) as soon as we get the information from the sources on the devices which are going to get the next big version of Android OS.

Update: Nexus Phones Android 4.4 Update
The Galaxy Nexus won’t get Android 4.4 as quoted by Google, because it has crossed the 18 month window period, while the later devices such as the Nexus 7, Nexus 10 would be getting the Android 4.4 update soon. The Nexus 5 which was launched today, would be coming with the 4.4 out of the box.

Samsung Phones to get Android 4.4 Update

For now, there is an internal Samsung Knox document which was leaked, and which showed a few devices which are going to get the Android 4.4 update, and the document actually showed the devices which would get the Samsung Knox in the coming update. The devices are as follows:
  • Samsung Galaxy S4
  • Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
  • Samsung Galaxy S4 Active
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 3 – Update Rolling out in UK, India
  • Samsung Galaxy Mega (no confirmation whether the 5.8, 6.3 or both)
  • Samsung Galaxy S3
  • Samsung Galaxy Note II
  • Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 & Tab 2
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0
The Galaxy S3 and Note II have been facing a few regional lock issues and that is what is prompting Samsung to come up with a major update on these devices, as confirmed by one of the Samsung representatives. But again, the document mentions it is the S3 which has 2GB of RAM, and that is the U.S. version which might be getting the update, and the International users might have to wait and watch if Samsung has made it ready for their devices too or not.
* A report from SamMobile has now suggested that the Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Fame, Galaxy Ace 2, and the Galaxy Fresh are the devices which they are testing the new OS version on, so it would be a possibility for these devices to run the Android 4.4 KitKat, not very soon though.

Sony Phones to get Android 4.4 Update

Sony has officially updated the list of the Android phones in the Xperia range which are going to receive the Android 4.4 KitKat update, and these mostly include the recent high-end smartphones. The company did mention a few devices which are supposedly going to get the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update and that directs us to a point that these devices aren’t going to receive the KitKat update any time soon. The Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V are the ones which would get the Android 4.3 update directly from Android 4.1 JB, and the devices mentioned above will be getting the Android 4.3 before they see the KitKat update rolling out.

HTC Phones to get Android 4.4 Update

The HTC One Max is to be announced very soon, and that should be anyways getting the update after the launch, but the devices which are expected to get the Android 4.4 KitKat update after its launch, includes HTC One.

Micromax Phones to get Android 4.4 Update

Check whether you own one of these devices, which could be getting the KitKat version of Android sooner or later. This is through a photo uploaded by MMXNewscaster, one of the sources which leaks the information about Micromax phones.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Tips and Tricks – Best Hidden Options & Features

Kids Mode
There is a dedicated kids mode in the Galaxy S5, and this isn’t just another feature which would do a limited stuff, but there is a lot included, and the kids gets to see a totally different interface which not just helps them get some interactive things to do, but at the same time, all your personal settings, apps and folders would go hidden and are kept safe.
Not just this, the kids can try to play around with the camera where there are options such as editing and placing effects while capturing the photo, and there are shortcuts to gallery, drawing and music but everything is limited. To enter the Kids Mode in the Samsung Galaxy S5, you need to set it up with the Pin unlock setting in the device.

How to check Heart Rate with Galaxy S5
The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with the heart rate sensor on the rear side, just below the camera. To check the heart rate using this sensor, you don’t download any special apps because the S Health application does the job perfectly, with a feature named Heart rate. You need to open the S Health app and go to Heart Rate.
When it says “Ready Place your finger on the sensor.”, place the finger horizontally over the sensor on the back, and you don’t need to press it. It would start measuring and would record the heart rate for a minute, before the average is shown to you.

Control Samsung Gear Fit – Change Clock & Wallpaper
The Samsung Gear Fit, a fitness tracker which was launched by Samsung alongside the S5, is compatible with only this smartphone for now. And the compatibility and functioning is so good that you can instantly change the wallpaper and clock on the Gear Fit by just a touch of the option on your smartphone. The syncing and change in options happens instantly.
To change the wallpaper or clock, you need to open the app called “Gear Fit Manager” which is a pre-installed app in your smartphone. There you would first need to connect and pair these two devices if you haven’t done it already, and then check for the options “Clocks” and “Wallpapers” under Edit home screen. That is where these can be changed.

Using Download Booster
The Download booster is a new feature in the Galaxy S5 which would help in downloading large files faster via Wi-Fi and mobile networks simultaneously. Everything is done by the phone itself and the only thing you need to ensure is that both the Wi-Fi and Data network connectivity are turned on.
To activate the download booster, you need to go to Settings > Download booster and then drag the download booster switch to the right to turn it on. To do it in a faster way, there is a direct toggle in the quick settings in the notification panel.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Download Booster 1
One of the best parts about the download booster that I notice is that the feature would turn off automatically if the device is getting heated a lot while trying to download the file using both the connections simultaneously.
How to use Emergency Mode
The emergency mode is something which does two things at the same time – enter the smartphone in a mode where the standby time is increased in an emergency situation so that the device is running for a longer time while it sends sound alarms, location information via messages and turns on the flash, reducing the other functions of the phone.
To activate the emergency mode, press and hold the power buttons until you see the window that is shown in the screenshot below. Tap on Emergency mode to activate it. Alternatively, you can even go to Settings > Safety assistance > Emergency mode and turn it on from there.

Receive Weather Notifications via Geo News
The Galaxy S5 comes with a feature where it would let you know of any calamity in the nature by checking for the location and then would let you know of any severe weather conditions around the set location. To activate the Geo News, you need to go to Settings > Safety assistance > Geo News and then drag the Geo News switch to the right to turn it on.
To receive the notifications, you need to tick Notification pop-ups. Whenever you receive a notification through a pop-up window for any severe weather condition, you can directly make emergency calls or send emergency SMS to the preset contacts. There is even a Geo News widget available for direct checking of the weather conditions.

Activating Power Saving Mode
The power saving mode in the Galaxy S5 comes with the options such as blocking background data, restricting performance, greyscale mode and there is an even better ultra power saving mode. The standby time as well as the usage time is increased as many functions are changed. The greyscale mode is to set the device to display colors on the screen as grey tones. To activate the power saving mode on your Galaxy S5, you need to go to either the Settings app and select the option, or there is a shortcut to it in the quick settings section in the notification panel.

Using the Galaxy S5 as Smart Remote
There is a pretty excellent app provided by Samsung in the Galaxy S5, which would make the device work as a smart remote. To use as a remote, you need to set it up by opening the Smart Remote application from the app list and then select the location, TV service provider and then it is just the touch of the buttons which would do the functioning like a standard remote. This feature was there on the LG G2 and G Pro 2 already, but still is quite good for the Samsung devices.
